How the Sullivan County Court Calendar Works
In Sullivan County, a posted trial-setting list goes by the name docket sounding. The Circuit Court Clerk page posts separate PDFs for Blountville, Bristol, and Kingsport. Handy as they are, these lists fall short. They are not a full daily schedule of every hearing in every court.
The county report itself is called Case Number Listing By Status. It is filtered to Jury Trials Only. Its columns include a filing-date range, open status, case number, case style, filing date, Tennessee code description, primary attorney and role, next court date, disposition date, filing type or reference number, and page count. No column names the judge or the courtroom.
That gap matters. A docket-sounding list organizes jury-trial settings and nothing more. Reading it as proof that no motion, bench trial, General Sessions hearing, Chancery matter, or city court session is set that day would be a mistake. For those, the Sullivan County docket needs a different tool.
Sullivan County Court Docket Soundings
A sample Blountville docket sounding generated on July 6, 2026 listed 19 open jury-trial cases. So the county is publishing these reports. But a PDF is a snapshot. A saved copy can mislead once weeks pass. Check the generation date on every document, and confirm which venue its title names.
| Schedule route | What it helps find | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| Blountville docket sounding | Posted county jury-trial settings | Not every court event |
| Bristol docket sounding | Posted Bristol venue settings | Static report |
| Kingsport docket sounding | Posted Kingsport venue settings | Can be superseded |
| TnCIS case search | Case-specific next-date field | No stand-alone date calendar |
For current PDFs, go straight to the source: the county document library and the Circuit Court page. Before calling anyone, compare the venue, the report date, the case number, and the next court date on the docket you pulled.
Sullivan County Court Date Lookups
No single channel answers every Sullivan County court date question. Begin with the case record or the docket sounding for that location. Still missing the date, room, or judge? Call the clerk or visit the counter. Municipal sessions are the exception. Those belong to the city court, not a county docket-sounding PDF.
- Read the citation, notice, or case paper for the court and location.

- For an appeal, use Tennessee Public Case History; for a municipal case, call the city clerk.
Need a Sullivan County hearing confirmed by phone? Blountville Circuit answers at 423-279-2752. In Bristol, call Law at 423-652-1030 or General Sessions at 423-989-4352, and in Kingsport dial Law at 423-224-1724 or General Sessions at 423-224-1711. Sullivan County Calendar Search Fields
TnCIS works backward from the case, not the calendar. That shapes every docket search you run. The public form offers five fields. They are Party Name, Case Year, Case Number, Court Type, and Case Type. There is no stand-alone date picker and no menu for setting type. Pull up the case first, then read the scheduling details it displays. The official Sullivan TnCIS form lays out exactly which controls the public can use.
The court and case-type checkboxes earn their keep. One party name can sit inside several Sullivan County dockets at once, and those filters keep the results apart. Keep one more limit in mind. TnCIS stops returning rows at 2,500. The page itself says nothing about how often the docket data refreshes. A common name calls for the year or the full case number. When a listed court date clashes with a filed order or a clerk notice, ask the clerk which entry controls.
Court Settings: What Each Field Means
A setting is a court event on the schedule. It is not automatically a trial. Read every field against the court, the venue, and the report date, because that context gives the docket entry its meaning. The official PDF backs the items explained here; room and judge still need direct confirmation when the entry leaves them out.
| Date | The Next Court Date in the report; compare it with later entries. |
|---|---|
| Time | The time paired with the next date in the sample. |
| Courtroom | Not shown in the inspected report header; confirm with the office. |
| Judge | Not shown in the inspected report header; ask the court. |
| Setting type | May be docket sounding, jury trial, non-jury trial, motion, or another event. |
| Disposition date | The closing date when shown, not the next hearing date. |
An Open row often shows no disposition date. That blank is normal, not a sign the setting was dropped. And a next date listed in the future only shows the setting on its face; it cannot rule out a later reset order the docket has not yet reached.
Sullivan County Court Setting Types
Sullivan County local rules split calendar work into several setting types. The label matters, since it drives what a party or lawyer must do next on the Sullivan County court docket.
- Docket sounding or call
- A scheduled call used to organize pending cases and trial settings.
- Jury trial
- A trial set for decision by a jury; the county sample expressly filters for these.
- Non-jury or bench trial
- A trial decided by the judge or chancellor.
- Motion setting
- A date for the court to consider a filed request.
- Continuance or reset
- A move from one setting to a later date after proper approval.
Jury trials get their dates at regular docket soundings. Attorneys have to answer the call there in person. Non-jury matters take a different route, set through the judge's or chancellor's administrative assistant, which is why one broad online calendar could never hold every Sullivan County court schedule entry.
When a Court Date Moves
Telling the clerk the parties agreed does not, by itself, continue a setting. Sullivan local rules put the grant in the judge's or chancellor's hands. The moving party prepares an order approved by counsel. Until that order enters, the old setting stands. No informal expectation should replace it.
To audit a moved date, read the docket in order. Look for the original setting, then a continuance or reset, a later setting, then a hearing or disposition. There is no universal Sullivan reset-code list. Keep the exact docket language. Ask the clerk when an event reads unclear.
Reset trail: Original Setting › Motion or Closure › Judicial Order or Court Notice › New Setting › Hearing
Note: A docket PDF left online can still show a hearing date that a later order has moved. Check with the clerk before you rely on it.
Kingsport Court Schedule Closures
Kingsport offers two real examples. Its Justice Center renovation closed the building in March 2025. That halted in-person payments and reset municipal cases, while notices went out by letter or phone. Then a February 2, 2026 weather cancellation forced rescheduling too. The Records Division stayed reachable, though. Neither closure dismissed a case; both were operational resets. The official Kingsport renovation notice shows how one building closure reshaped court operations.
Check for dated city alerts about closures. Do this before you drive to a municipal hearing in Kingsport. Weather and building problems can cancel a session. This can happen after your citation or screen was printed with the first setting. Once you learn of a disruption, call the office and confirm the new date. Traffic questions go to 423-229-9428, and records or citation information goes to 423-229-9427.
Sullivan County Municipal Court Schedules
City courts set their own calendars, apart from the county docket-sounding route. Bristol Municipal Court convenes Tuesday and Thursday at 8 a.m. Johnson City schedules Monday at 8 a.m. and Wednesday at 8 a.m. It also sits the first and third Tuesdays at 6 p.m. Its citation prints the exact date and time for that case. So read the ticket itself.
Kingsport and Bluff City each need confirmation from the city. Kingsport City Court sits at the Justice Center. It posts separate traffic and records phone lines. Bluff City posts no public online calendar, so call its listed court contact at 423-538-7144. None of these city sessions can be swapped for the county's Circuit jury-trial PDFs.
Choose by issuer: A city citation belongs with the city court named on it, while a county Sessions or Circuit case follows the county clerk route.
Missed Settings and What Comes Next
Missed a court setting? Call the court office on the notice or docket right away. Have the case number, party name, scheduled date, and location ready. Then ask whether the court entered a new date, an order, a warrant, a default, or anything else. Waiting for a web search to refresh will not move the docket. The clerk's entry will.
Urgent date issue: Only the court can state the current effect of a missed setting and what the case now requires.
Missing a civil hearing and missing a criminal one can lead to very different results. A city citation may run through a third process entirely. The clerk can point you to the docket entry and the next step. The clerk cannot give legal advice, though. When you need an order, ask for the actual filed copy. Do not trust a date on a search result.
Write down the time you called, the office you reached, and the date they gave you. If the matter was reset, ask how notice will arrive and whether a new written order exists. People with lawyers should also call their lawyers. Local rules put some setting and order duties on the attorneys. A city case belongs with the municipal number, not the county Law or Sessions desk.
When a missed date shows up only on a static list, check the case against the live record. Do not conclude anything before that. A later disposition date may mean the court already acted. A new next date may mean a reset. Neither field alone tells you the full ruling. Ask for the dated entry or order recording what happened. That document beats an old calendar snapshot. It will also show what the Sullivan County court requires before your next appearance.
